Volvo’s Self-steering Sugar-cane Harvest Trucks

In the past few months, we have covered plenty of drones and self-driving vehicles that can make life easier for farmers. Volvo’s self-steering sugar-cane harvest trucks are also helpful. They were developed to boost harvest by up to 10 tonnes per hectare. It prevents losses due to young plants being run over by heavy tractors.

Volvo Trucks developed a driver assistance system that automates steering, keeping the truck on the right course, away from the harvester. With GPS receivers, the truck follows a map across the sugar-cane field. Two gyroscopes are used to prevent the truck from veering off course.
