Toyota Prius is already a very popular fuel efficient vehicle. In the future, you will be able to charge your Prius with sunlight without needing to plug in. Toyota is already testing a sun-powered Prius fitted with Sharp’s solar panels on its hood, roof, rear window, and spoiler.
The electricity generated goes directly to the drive battery, so the vehicle can charge while moving or when parked. The charge is good enough for 35 miles of travel. The solar cells are just 0.03mm but batteries for the solar panels, which are put in the trunk of the car, add 80kg of weight. The challenge is to bring the cost down and make the package lighter.
