The iPhone and Android devices have come a long way over the years. They are now powerful enough to take on serious tasks, even on the battlefield. Tactical NAV is a military grade navigation app that has helped members of the armed forces capture enemy insurgents.
As a U.S soldier who was part of this mission explains:
It was pitch black, and the roads were super tight, so we got lost. But, by using Tactical NAV, we were able to get to the building where the insurgents were located. […] Using the app, we were able to find the insurgents using Tactical NAV’s main map screen, and by using the app’s accuracy, we communicated the grid coordinates to the tactical operations center back at base
This app lets users pinpoint their location with extreme accuracy and acquire an MGRS/UTM/BNG/LAT-LONG coordinate to any position on the map. It has offline mapping, waypoint plotting, and compass fastLock function. You can find out more about it here.
