Plenty of vloggers and content producers rely on action cams to capture their adventures. The SJCAM C300 happens to be a fairly affordable but powerful 4K30fps action camera that comes with everything you need to record your special moments. It has a dual touchscreen design and can be used in your car, on your head/shirt, and anywhere else. The company kindly provided us with a unit for our review. Let’s see what’s included:
Our C300 came with a back clip, base back clip, waterproof case, lanyard, adhesive stickers, curved and flat mounts, a base mount, main camera, and a battery. A wearable magnetic holder was also included, which is very handy for hands-free shots. This camera has 1000mAh and 2800mAh battery modules, which you can easily switch, depending on the length of your video captures.
We found the camera to be very intuitive to use. You just attach the module you want, press the button, and you are ready to set it up. You get multiple shooting modes to choose from, including video, still, car, slow recording, and a livestreaming mode. You have the option to connect this to your laptop and use it as a regular webcam. To gain access to resolutions and various modes, you have to swipe up from the bottom of the screen. Playback, WiFi, and other settings can be accessed with a swipe down from the top of the screen.
The C300 has a 154-degree wide angle lens, so it can capture a lot more around it. We were able to connect it to our smartphone by scanning a QR code. Once connected, you can change various settings, remote control the camera, and view past videos and photos. To change video resolution, just tap on the small number on the bottom left corner of your screen. You have these resolutions to choose from:
- 4K 30FPS
- 2.5K 30fps super view
- 2K 60/30FPS
- 1080P 120/60/30FPS
- 720P 120/60/30FPS
We found the C300 to be highly customizable. For example, it let us change encoding from H.264 to H.265, capture vertical videos, and record motion detected video. This camera can handle memory cards up to 128GB. We received a 32GB memory card in our kit which had more than enough space for our tests.
We tested the waterproof case in rainy conditions and had no issues. The case is 30m rated, so it should be able to protect this camera in extreme conditions. We also tested this action cam’s 6-axis gyro stabilization extensively. Without it, the footage was quite shaky. By activating gyro stabilization, we were able to record very smooth video while jogging (see above video).
This camera can be used with a wide variety of software applications. We were able to use our C300 as a video source for OBS Studio. That means one can use the device for livestreaming on the internet on a variety of platforms. It can also be mounted to an iPhone for dual streaming.
Overall, the SJCAM C300 is one of the best affordable action cams we have tested. For the price, you get a whole lot of features and accessories. Its dual screens are a nice touch. Being able to record slow and vertical videos was very convenient. We found the wearable magnetic holder quite handy as it makes it possible to put the camera on your chest for hands-free recording. If you are looking for a versatile 4K action camera that doesn’t break the bank, the C300 is well worth a shot.
