Chess computers have come a long way over the years. The Chessnut Air, DGT Centaur, and Mephisto Phoenix are all capable of beating all grandmasters. Older chess computers tend to be more stylish though. Take the Saitek President for instance: it is a modular chess computer from 1993. It is powered by a 10MHz processor with 64 levels. This computer played at Aegon 1995 and finished with 2 wins and 4 losses. Hiarcs and Chess Genius X finished top among computers with 5 points.
This chess computer has a gorgeous wooden board. It also has magnetic pieces and reed switches. The computer module is easily removable. It lets you change levels, set up position, and a lot more. This board does require all the pieces to be correctly lined up for it to operate. It can play against itself. Here are the specs:
- 1kb RAM
- 32KB ROM
- 8-bit H8 processor
- estimated rating: 2000 ELO
The Saitek President is rare but you can find it on eBay at this time.
