Researchers are always inspired by living creatures to improve their own robot designs. Scientists at our Max Planck Institute for Intelligent Systems and ETH Zurich have come up with a robotic leg that is powered by HASELS, also known as electro-hydraulic artificial muscles. This leg can jump across grass, pebbles and rocks.

The artificial muscles used in this robot are self sensing, so they can detect collisions with obstacles. As the researchers explain, this leg consumes almost no energy. You can find out more about it here.
