Advanced exoskeletons can make life easier for a lot of people, including paralyzed people and seniors with mobility difficulties. Here are 8 robotic exoskeletons you shouldn’t miss:
ITRI‘s Robotic Walking Assist Exoskeleton: lets people with lower extremities paralysis move independently.
MARCH Exoskeleton: designed to let paraplegics stand up and walk. MARCH is being developed by a student team from the TU Delft with feedback from paraplegic pilot Claudia.
ReHand Robotic Exoskeleton: designed for rehab, ReHand is worn like a glove and provides assistance when moving fingers. It uses an algorithm to understand the intention of patients to open or close their hand.
Ekso Wearable Robotic Suit: this was developed for gait rehab to let people who are dealing with neurological conditions and lower extremity weakness stand up and walk. It can support the patient with 100% motor power if needed.
TWIICE Exoskeleton: EPFL developed this handy device to allow people with paraplegia to stand up, walk, climb steps, and become independent. Its hip and knee joints are controlled with two electric motors.
Rewalk: an FDA-approved exoskeleton that allows paraplegics to walk again. It can improve cardiovascular health, build lean muscle mass, and improve bowel function.
IHMC Mina: a powered lower extremity exoskeleton for mobility assistance. Mina has an adjustable design to accommodate users of all sizes.
Berkeley Exoskeleton for people with spinal cord injury: a modular solution that weighs 27 pounds and gives users complete control on each step. Users will be able to go as fast as 0.5 m/sec with this.
Stay tuned as we will cover more advanced prosthetic devices and exoskeletons here in the future.
