Robot Plays Piano Based on Cloud Shapes & Movements

Here is a cool robot that plays the keys of a piano based on cloud shapes and movements. To pull this off, the designers pointed a camera at the sky to capture video of the clouds. A custom software then uses those videos to control a robotic device that plays the piano. In other words, as clouds move in the sky, this robot generates fascinating music using a piano.

This installation was commissioned by L’assaut de la Menuiserie, Saint-Etienne, France and completed with support from the Visualization and Digital Imagining Lab and Weber Music Hall, University of Minnesota.
