AI chessboards have come a long way over the years. The latest models let you play against Stockfish and LC0. The older models were not as smart but a few of them could work with computers. Take the Novag Citrine for instance: it is a 2006 chess computer with LEDs to show the moves. It also has a detachable computer with a LCD display.

Unlike other old chess computers, this one doesn’t require a hard press to register the moves. It has an estimated rating of 2300 USCF. It supported Arena, ChessDB, WinBoard and other GUs. This board didn’t have the strongest engine but it was stylish and versatile for its time.
