Robots have come a long way in the past couple of decades. They are only going to get better in the future though. Take the LittleDog Robot for instance. Built by Boston Dynamics and programmed by the CLMC Lab at the University of Southern California, this robot is capable of autonomously navigating and crossing challenging terrains. Its body movements, optimized for stable and dynamic movements, are combined with leg movements that avoid the terrain in an optimal fashion. That allows the robot to move fast and in a stable fashion.
The robot’s foothold scoring system enables it to choose the best option going forward. As you can see in the above video, the robot has special moves for extreme conditions. It also features recovery moves. There is a lot to like here. You can find out more on CLMC’s website.
