The Oudin Coil was one of my favorite toys from school. It was a safe science gadget that shot lightning bolts at metal things. The version we had was 50,000v rated. While it was safe, it was pretty expensive. The Joytech Handheld Tesla Coil (SSTC SS24) is much more affordable but works similarly. We recently had a chance to test one. Let’s see what was included:
Our handheld tesla coil came with the main unit and discharge needle that you can attach in a flash. You also get tiny bulbs for your experiments. You can use this tool to light up Neon and other gases. The other model we had required a break after 10 minutes. This one can go for 30 minutes without interruption. The plastic shell offers good insulation, so you don’t have to worry about getting zapped.
When it comes to the original Oudin Coil, this one is a bit lighter. It doesn’t feel as sturdy but is good enough for science experiments. It is pretty affordable, which is a big plus.
