Slushies are great to have on a hot summer day. The bad part is all that sugar you need to put in to make them. Most zero-ice slushie makers require you to put beverages with 5% sugar content. Without it, it could take forever for ice to form. The good news is there is an alternative to regular sugar for these these of drinks. Allulose is a low-calorie sugar substitute that doesn’t affect blood sugar level like regular sugar, making it ideal for people who have diabetes.
We recently tested the Inoviva slushie makers with regular sugar. For our next experiment, we used allulose with a zero-sugar drink. The key part here is to get the ratio right. If you add too much allulose, your slushies won’t maintain form. They will be softer in our experience. This machine didn’t have any problem making 0-sugar slushies this way. It took about the same amount of time. Unlike regular sugar, allulose doesn’t contribute to cavities. It could cause bloating, so you will want to use it in moderation. This slushie maker has wine, cocktail, frappe, and other programs for you to try as well.
