We see exciting concept cars and futuristic car designs all the time. Folks used to think of crazy cars even in the 30s. Take the Dynasphere for instance: it was a monowheel vehicle design patented in 1930 by John Archibald Purves. Two prototypes were built, one with an electrical model and one with a gasoline motor. The vehicle reached top speeds of up to 30 miles per hour.
As you can see in the above video, the Dynasphere looked like a giant hamster wheel. The driver’s seat and the motor were part of one unit. This was supposed to be the high-speed vehicle of the future. So what went wrong? The Dynasphere could move forward just fine but it was not easy to steer or brake. The design was not perfect but we have seen crazier things, have you?
