Rain lamps are some of the coolest lamps money can buy. They were quite popular in the 1960s and 70s, so you may have seen one at your grandparents’ house. Johnson Industries is by all accounts the original creator of these lamps in the 1960s. You can find these in a variety of sizes and conditions on eBay. This Diana Rain Lamp is one of the most compact models yet. It uses mineral oil to create a trippy rain drop effect.
If you are getting one of the older models, you may want to do proper cleaning before adding mineral oil. Ours was in new conditions, so we simply poured Drakeol 35 mineral oil in it and the rest was easy. There are versions of this lamp with a clock or moving sculpture in the middle. This particular one has a sculpture of Diana in the middle but it doesn’t move.
