Drone delivery systems are nothing new. Amazon and Google are seriously pursuing it. But they are not the only players. In fact, DHL has used a drone to fly parcels to the German island of Juist. It is the first time an unmanned aircraft has been authorized to deliver goods in Europe. The drone can fly at up to 40 miles an hour. It can be used to deliver medication and other important items to a car-free environment like the island of Juist.

If the trial is successful, such a system can be used to deliver goods to remote areas. Drone delivery systems still face a lot of challenges from privacy advocates and other groups, so the battle to make them acceptable will be going on for a while.
