The Chessnut Go is one of our favorite travel chess computers. It connects to your phone or tablet to let you play on Lichess and Chess.com. It has magnetic pieces, so you can move the board around without having to worry about dropping the pieces. It even has an OTB game recording function. The DGT Centaur is by far one of the strongest standalone chess computers ever made. It has an estimated rating of over 3000 ELO. It has an e-ink display on the side to show the moves.
As you can see in the above video, both these boards have a gorgeous black & white design. The Centaur is much bigger, so it is less portable. Both run for hours on battery. The Centaur has 3 levels for you to change (friendly, challenging, expert). It also has adjustable time and other settings. The Chessnut Go doesn’t have an engine built-in, but you can use it with a DGT Pi, laptop, tablet, or phone.
The Chessnut Go can be used with WhitePawn, Chess for Android, Arena, ChessBase, and other popular apps. It also lets you set up positions fast with its full piece recognition. The board has all the features we have come to love in the Chessnut Air & Air+ but is much smarter. If you are looking for a standalone chess computer, you can’t get much stronger than the Centaur. If you plan to have your phone around when you play chess, the Chessnut Go is a much more versatile option.
