Chessnut boards are quite popular these days. They are gorgeous smart chess boards with piece recognition and support for Lichess and Chess.com. The Chessnut Evo is one of the advanced chessboards ever made. It has a 12.3-inch Android tablet on the side that lets you play on various platforms. You can test your skills against Maia, Leela Chess Zero, and Stockfish. You can easily set up positions, play online, or try drills.
The Chessnut Air+ is the latest chessboard by this company. It is a gorgeous fully wooden smart chessboard that works with the Chesssnut app on your iOS or Android device. You can also use it with third party apps such as WhitePawn or Arena on your desktop computer. It has a lightweight body with a much more compact design than the Chessnut Pro. Unlike the EVO, this board requires a tablet or smartphone to work.
What’s neat is you can use the pieces on these boards interchangeably. The Chessnut Air+ has hidden LEDs under the board that light up only when you need to make a move. Both come with a USB-C port for charging. The Chessnut EVO has a fully functional tablet on the side, which is the only one we have seen.
