The good folks at Millennium Chess have come up with a bunch of gorgeous standalone chess computers over the years. The Chess Genius Pro 2024 is their latest model, which is a redesign of the Chess Genius Pro from a few years back. It is more compact and has a colorful display. It has an ARM Cortex M4 120 MHz processor with 160KB RAM. It has strong magnets, so the pieces stay put as you move the board around.
The King Competition is more than a standalone computer. It works with the ChessLink module for online play. It also supports Chess960. It has a 300MHz processor with an estimated rating of 2450 ELO as opposed to 2200 ELO for the Chess Genius Pro 2024. It doesn’t have a magnetic board though. Both boards require a press to register the moves.
The King Competition has an ARM Cortex M7 processor. You can adjust clock speed down to 10 MHz. It also has more RAM (384K), so it is a stronger computer. You can use this board to play on Lichess and Chess.com. The Chess Genius Pro is simply a standalone computer, so you won’t be able to play online. It is much more compact, so you can easily take it with you anywhere. It is also more affordable.
