Smart thermostats are nothing new. They control the temperature in your home and keep you comfortable while saving you money. BEMO° takes a different approach. It allows you to transform your old smartphone into a smart thermostat. It completely replaces your old thermostat and connects to your HVAC wires coming out from the wall. Just connect your smartphone to BEMO° with a USB wire, so it can charge your device. The device has 8 switches and a temperature/humidity sensor to do what you would expect a regular thermostat to do. It will have a ZigBee chip too.
BEMO° is pretty smart. It is open source and highly customizable. It works over SMS and supports voice commands if your smartphone does. BEMO° can serve as an emergency alert system. It can adjust its program based on your proximity to your home. The developer are expected to add iOS support to BEMO° in the future. For now, you can support it on Kickstarter.
