The Kindle Fire is still one of the cheapest Android tablets around. But it does not run the latest version of Android. There is a lot to like about Android Jelly Bean. Developer Hashcode has ported Android 4.1 to run on the Kindle Fire. While the solution is not perfect (has some WiFi and video acceleration issues), it does bring the latest version of Android to these cheap tablets. It is perhaps better for those of you interested to wait for Amazon to cut its tablet’s price before picking one up for this project.
